Once a field, located at the south entrance to the village, the general meeting, with elective and legislative functions (Centena) of the Comungrande (the combined communities of Mesolcina and Calanca) was held here on 25th April each year. The square and memorial fountain were inaugurated in 1996, to mark the 500th anniversary of the Mesolcina valley joining the Grey League.
