The church is set in a small walled parvis, where you can stop for a rest and admire the view over Mandello and the lake. The marble holy water stoup dating from the 9th or 10th century is a clue to the church’s ancient origins, although the building as it stands today was erected in the 13th century. Inside there are some magnificent 15th-century frescoes depicting Hell and Paradise and the Works of Mercy reminiscent of the Ligurian-Piedmontese style of painting.
