San Vittore - Collegiata dei santi Giovanni Battista e Vittore (Collegiate Church of San Giovanni Battista and San Vittore)

San Vittore - Collegiata dei santi Giovanni Battista e Vittore (Collegiate Church of San Giovanni Battista and San Vittore)

A small deviation from the original route of stage 01 in the Mesolcina Valley; this building was built as a hall church in the 13th century and was subject to major renovations in the early 16th and 18th centuries. It now has a large basilica space, divided into three aisles and a polygonal choir characterised by an umbrella vault. The interior was changed according to Baroque taste (1731). The various wall paintings include the early Renaissance altar of the Holy Cross (1498); there are numerous paintings (17th-18th century), including a Crucifixion painted by Nicolao Giuliani (1680).
